Grass along side lake at
Isle Royale National Park. I was using a slow film while
hiking the Greenstone Ridge Trail, and there are no camera shops on
the island. When I came to this scene, I needed to put
something in the foreground. There was not enough color in the
background to make the photo pop. I laid low along a shoreline
and with my long lens, composed a decent composition. There
was a slight wind blowing the grass and occasionally ripples in the
water would appear. To keep the grass from blurring, I had to use a
fast shutter speed. To allow enough light through the lense, I
had to open the aperture. With no depth of field, I understood
that I'd have to use the grass for the main subject and leave the
background shapes colors and reflection to do their own work.
