Skål Jim!!!!
I pulled into a town shortly after sunset. Rough
the day had already been. No air-conditioning on a 100+ degree
day. I retreated to my truck and decided to check out a bit of
Missouri. At least I could explore in the comfort of air
conditioning. I had read about some Covered Bridges in the
area, so thought I would take a look at them. While on the way
to one of these subjects, I got a flat tire. That made me late
to the bridge, and when I finally got there, I learned that it was
not a very good subject at that time of the year. I was also
to late to set up any other shots for the nice sun set. A
different route back to the east side of the Mississippi took me
through Perry Missouri. Nice little downtown area. I saw
that Rick's Place was open, so I stopped to get a beer. I love
walking into small town bars. I have some of the best
conversations at these places. I asked the bar tender
for a Guinness. Of course, he didn't have one.
Next, I asked for the worst beer in the house.
Most of the time that I was in the bar, a group of 8 or so
guys at the bar just laughed and joked about anything and
everything. The kind of guys that will buy me a Stag
Beer....that stuff was nasty, I ain't even going to call that stuff
beer anymore....along with the rest of an entire round of drinks.
By the time it was time for me to leave, Rick, the owner, invited me
back later in the week so that we could tour Mark Twain Lake in his
huge boat. I met him at the bar a couple of days later and we
went down to the docks for a bit of a tour. (thanks Rick!!!)
The sun was down when we got back to the bar, so I stopped in for a
drink. I soon went back out to the truck and got my Viking
Helmet out. The bar was full of laughter as we passed that hat
around amongst a large group of the same guys from a couple nights
before.
